Four - Moving Around
Okay let's
assume you've solved the first puzzle and are out
of the tearoom. As the greens and browns fade
into clarity, have a look around. We've used LOOK
before to see where we are, and you can shorten
this to L if you want. The first
few times you play, it's nice to read the room
descriptions as it helps you to form a picture of
the place in your head. If you are unsure of the
exits, you can always type EXITS
(or just X) for a refresher.
There are eight
major directions in which you can travel. These
represent the four major compass points (NORTH,
EAST, SOUTH and WEST) and the
four minor compass points ( NORTHWEST,
NORTHEAST, SOUTHWEST and SOUTHEAST).
Most of the time you will be using these. You can
also travel UP and DOWN, IN
and OUT and SWAMPWARD.
The last two are
useful incase you ever get lost in the land.
Repeated inputs of OUT will
eventually take you to the FORD ACROSS
THE RIVER, and SWAMPWARD
will lead you back to (yes, you guessed it...gg)
the SWAMP.
Abbreviations of
all these commands (and most in mud2) are more
commonly used. These are:
N, E, S, W
----- NORTH, EAST, SOUTH and WEST.
NW, NE, SW, SE ----- NORTHWEST,
NORTHEAST, SOUTHWEST and SOUTHEAST.
U, D, IN, OUT, ZW ----- UP, DOWN,
IN, OUT, SWAMPWARD.
These are the
major directions used in the game. You can also
use others, like JUMP but I'll
go into more detail about this in the advanced
section.

Five - Fighting Mobiles
To survive in our
glorious land, you will have to learn to fight.
And be good at it. Death is not something you
should be scared of (Everyone dies. Many times
infact...gg). The unofficial motto of mud2 is "You
haven't lived until you've died in Mud2!".
Your first few persona's should be used as a
means of learning the game. Don't worry if you
die (I remember the very first time I died. I saw
a billy goat and decided it should be sent to
meet it's maker. I attacked it, and it obviously
decided that I should be sent to meet my
maker - I've since took my revenge many MANY
times.....gg).
The command used
to kill something is KILL
followed by the name of what you want to kill.
Another factor in
fighting is weaponry. You stand a distinct
advantage in a fight if you've got a good weapon.
Preferably sharp and pointy, but not essential
(grin). In times of desperation use anything that
comes to hand, from sticks (better if on
fire....hehe) and umbrellas to garden forks and
(my personal favourite) rolling pins.
Another essential
factor is your health. An unhealthy fighter is a
dead fighter. To check your health look at your SCORE,
or it's abbreviated form, QS.
This also shows your effective strength and
dexterity. To improve your health (or stamina)
back to full again you will need to SLEEP.
This is best done in remote places where you are
unlikely to get attacked. In your sleep you will
often experience surreal dreams, with a word or
phrase that seems to stand out. If you can say
this word before anyone else (other people dream
as well.....) then something good will happen.
But what happens
if you attack something, and you find yourself
losing then. Well the answer is obvious. FLEE.
Run away. Retreat Brave Sir Robin style (grin).
You'll lose points, yes. But you'll be alive and
that's the main thing. You can also FLEE
in a certain direction if you want with FLEE
followed by the direction. e.g. FLEE OUT.
My advice is to
use common sense when about to kill things. Use
the VALUE command to get a rough
estimate of the odds. First type VAL ME
to get a rough value of how much you are worth.
Then use the same command to value the potential
victim. e.g. VAL VAMPIRE. If
your value is higher then you have more chance of
killing the monster.
By the way, don't
bother fighting the vampire. Just run. It's safer
:0)
It will come
naturally with time, trust me.

Six - Fighting Players
Hmm. A touchy
subject. There have been endless debates about
the enigma that is the PK
(Player Killer). The fact is that sooner or later
a fellow player will attack you. And you have to
be prepared.
To defend yourself
from PK's you will need a good
weapon, and even some wafers. Wafers
can restore stamina if eaten. This is especially
useful if you are in a fight, although good
wafers are hard to find.
Also FLEEING
is a bit different when fighting players. If you FLEE,
it is almost guarranteed that the player will
reattack you. Now different players have
different methods of fleeing from PK's.
I used to FLEE OUT and then QQ,
which will quit the current game and return you
to the screen with OPTION: on.
This is good for newbies who don't mind losing
their weapons and other treasure. You could also FLEE
and then run away as fast as possible.
I'll go into other methods in the advanced
section.
It is a totally
different matter if you yourself want to attack
other players. And I'm not very experienced with
that (because I loathe and detest PK's).
I'll get a celebrity player in to give you some
advice as soon as possible.
