A guide for Mud2 Newbies:

Don't know your picks from your parasols, or your conches from your coconuts? Read on and all will be explained.....

I've split my guide up into various sections to make it easier to digest. There's also a handy text file with some important commands on if you want to print them out for easy reference whilst in the game.

If you've got any problems that aren't answered here then mail me and I'll do my best to help you out.

The guide sections are:

Getting Started - Installation and Logging In.
The Tearoom - My favourite place in all the land.
Communication - Learn to talk to other players.
Moving About - Learn to explore without hassle.
Fighting Mobiles - Learn to kill things with an umbrella. Ahem.
Fighting Players - Learn to run away very fast or be prepared to defend yourself.
Mapping - Learn to know the place.
Advanced - Learn to explore for yourself.

NEW! - Theman's Diaries! A first hand guide from when Theman was a new guy around these parts!

A beginner's guide by Tom - invaluable. Read it here.

A guide for those advancing above newbie status, by Tharg. Read it here.

The Touchstone.
The Cave of Stars high in the North Mountain is a very dangerous place. It contains the most potent thing in all the land - the touchstone. If touched, you will recieve magical powers and the ability to cast all manner of weird and wonderful spells. This comes at a deadly price however. There is a chance that the touchstone will kill you. No matter what. Even the wizzes do not have power over it. The lower the level you are, the more chance you will die. A general rule of thumb is to wait till you are the level of Champion before attempting to touch this stone. Some however dare to touch it at lower levels. Sometimes you can be lucky. Not often though.

Invaluable In-Game Commands.

The Most Important Thing to Remember.
The best help you can get is in the actual game. There is a library of help files just waiting for you to read them. Although I didn't when I first started, I soon went back and read over them. They are written by the maker of the game Dr Richard Bartle and not by someone dumb like me!

HAWUMPH!
The Dragon
For newbies, there isn't much you need to know about the dragon, as she's hard to get to. There's only one way you can stumble across it but as a newbie it's extremely unlikely. Ms Dragon is the hardest mobile in the game. If it attacks you then you're dead. If you flee, you'll get roasted. If it gets you, scream for help. If you're extremely lucky a kind wiz might help you out. Might that is. Don't quote me on that. :0)

The Cottage
The best place for newbies I think. Lots to do here and even some mobiles to chop up. I loved it when I first arrived, reading all the books and getting the groat from the bathroom (Hmm, it looks a bit dirty though...). The cellar is off limits for total newbies though. It's pretty dangerous.
