Turrican's Mud2 Client---
This is the first
of the new mud2 client's that we will be getting
now that WP Mud2 has gone telnet. And I'll be
honest, this one does the job.
You can download
it from Cat's excellent website, which is here. It's in
the news section. Go on, it's only 37k or
thereabouts.
Good news is that
it is an MS-DOS program, so it doesn't need
Windows taking up all my precious memory
<grin>.
I've put together
some brief instructions for those who aren't
familiar with MS-DOS, or are just too damned lazy
to work it out for themselves. (like I usually am
<g>) The important bits are emboldened.
After downloading
the program (called TWPMUD2.exe), put it
somewhere nice and easy to remember (mine is in
my mud2 file, which is in C:\).
Now connect
yourself to the internet.
If you're using
Windows then go to the MS-DOS prompt
that should be in the Start Menu somewhere. You
should be in C:\windows. Well now find
the directory that you put the file in
using the CD command. CD .. will move you up a
directory and CD x will move you into directory
x. To check the listings of the directory use the
DIR command (a less confusing one is actually DIR
/w/p, which displays everything nicely and
neatly). If you really can't be bothered with all
these commands then put the file in your
C:\windows directory and you can just run the
program. Don't blame if something happens to your
pc though...<g>
Now run
the program by just typing it's name.
You'll be presented with a list of command
parameters that have to be added before the
program will work. I tend to leave most of these
to the default settings (by leaving them out).
After making your selections type in the
program name with the additional parameters after
it, then the IP address of mud and the Port
address.
Mine loooked like
this:
TWPMUD2
-f2 -lLOG.txt 212.140.216.34 23
That means to load
the client in f2 mode (my prefered mode), using
the IP address 212.140.216.34 (the WP mud
address) and port number 23 (the WP mud port
address). The -lLOG.txt (the first letter is a
small L - it's confusing in this font...) also
tells it to log everything that happens to a file
called LOG.txt. I'd advise you to do this,
because if anything good happens you can send it
in to me! <gg>
If you're not
already connected to the internet then your
computer will try to connect itself (probably by
switching back into windows and loading up the
Dial-Up Networking).
If everything is
done correctly, the client will start up and away
you go. If not, don't shout at me......
<grin>
And just for the
record, I found it to be a LOT faster than zmud.
Cool.
